Home Design and Organization Trends for 2023

By: Staff Published: December 19, 2022

What’s new in home design and organization for 2023? We’ve rounded up six of our top decor trends that will refresh your rooms and your life.

Multitasking Living Rooms

Your living room probably already serves many purposes – from a place to cheer on your favorite team to an occasional office. By adjusting the layout and adding a key piece of furniture or two, you can maximize the space without breaking your budget.

Consider how you use your living room and what would make it work better for you before investing in any pieces. Love family game night? A cabinet with storage could stow board games and decks of cards. Work from home from time to time? A console table could double as a desk when needed.

Sentimentality on Display

The sleek minimalism of recent years is giving way to authenticity and an embrace of the past. Beloved mementos, inherited artifacts or lifelong collections deserve their time in the spotlight. You can let it shine on them by placing your curated items in a shadowbox, in a bookcase or in a cube organizer.

Dedicate a shelf or the entire bookcase to your coveted souvenirs, grandma’s pottery or vintage barware – whatever means a lot to you.

Dark and Moody Workspaces

Just like the whole house, the home office is going darker in 2023. Paint the walls a deep color or hang vintage-looking wallpaper to evoke a Victorian study. Then furnish it with antique or dark, heavy chairs and a desk. Better yet, build in your own library shelves and drawers in black or a warm brown.

Bright, Jewel-like Colors

Not a fan of gothically dramatic interiors? Try some of the new year’s happy, saturated colors. Favored shades include fuschia pink, lavender and olive green.

Go all out and update your wall paint or coverings. Or incorporate them more subtly and interchangeably with throw pillows, vases and other decorative accessories.

A fabric bin in a bold color like fuschia brings the fun and functionality.

Micro Luxury

This might not be the time to indulge in a complete home makeover but why not treat yourself to a little something special?

Redo your half bathroom in opulent fixtures and finishes. Splurge on the pricey candles you’ve always wanted. The size of your upgrade is up to you and your bank account.

Spoil yourself with a well-appointed closet.

Another pampering project we particularly love – a new closet! Make it your own with the help of a ClosetMaid designer or hire an installer to build your custom closet for you.

A Well-Organized Home

Of course we saved the best trend for last! As we continue to spend more time in our homes than ever before, we also want it to be a place of calm over chaos.

You choose what is achievable as far as home organization – and know that it’s always an ongoing process. Maybe you’ll start small and tackle one problem area. Perhaps you’re the type to dive in headfirst and do it all at once. Neither way is wrong!

entryway storage system

The entryway is often one of the messiest areas in the house but it doesn’t have to be. Install a storage system to contain the clutter.

These are a few of our top trends for the new year. Why not make a resolution to try one, some or all in 2023?
