Sara Miller believes what many of us do: “It’s hard to live with a closet that isn’t functional!”

That’s why she and her husband decided to drastically change their bedroom closets. The Millers transformed their his-and-hers closets into one big walk-in by breaking the walls down.

Before: The Millers’ closet used to be cramped, with some hanging space nearly unreachable.

Next, it was time to select the closet system that would best suit their needs. The couple went with ClosetMaid’s BrightWood system.

Why BrightWood?

Easy to install, the tower-based wood closet system offers a custom look without the expensive labor costs. You can pick from four finishes – White, Latte, Ash and Frost – and three door and drawer styles – shaker, traditional and modern.

To ensure your closet will fulfill all your storage requirements, choose accessories like angled shoe shelves, doors and corner shelves. BrightWood also has two tower widths and two drawer sizes per tower width.

His side of the Millers’ BrightWood closet features a 25-inch tower with shoe shelves, corner shelves, double-hang space and a 16-inch tower with drawers.

The Millers’ New Closet

The Millers’ must-haves in their new closet system were drawers, hanging space and shoe storage. And, they wanted to take advantage of the corners to maximize the closet’s capacity.

Their final design consisted of identical storage on each person’s side for symmetry.

They decided on the Frost finish for a few reasons. “It’s so pretty and neutral and it matches our wall color perfectly,” Sara says. “I’m literally obsessed with it.”

Sara’s side of the new closet has dedicated shelves for her handbag collection, as well as folded shirts.

Layout is key to an organized closet. “It’s so crazy to think how big this space was and, now that we’re using it in the right way and have stuff against the wall, there is so much more room in here,” Sara says.

After carefully measuring the walls’ width and height and planning their closet, the Millers installed the system themselves.

“We could not be more happy and excited that we chose ClosetMaid’s BrightWood collection,” she says.
