You probably know you can customize any closet system to fit your space and your needs. But maybe you’re not sure how to turn your vision into reality. It’s not as difficult as you might imagine. While ClosetMaid does have online tools and professional designers to help you through the process, you can put together a closet all by yourself using a kit and accessories.

In this blog post, we’ll dissect a reach-in Impressions closet system to show you how easy it is to get organized.

Start with a Tower Kit

Impressions, like several of our collections, has a tower as its main structure. Serving as storage in itself, the tower also comes with and supports hang rods as well as multiple other accessories.

This Impressions kit contains up to 16.5 feet of shelf space and 12 feet of hanging space.

Our featured closet is using the 5-ft. to 10-ft. Closet Kit as its base. The tower comes with three hang rods, four fixed shelves and four adjustable shelves, along with the necessary hardware to build and install it.

Add Accessories

Sometimes, a tower kit alone is sufficient for your needs, especially if you’re putting it in an entryway or a guest room. Often, though, your closet could use some accessories. The good news is that you’ll find Impressions drawers, shoe organizers, corner units, top shelves and more that are compatible with the system.

Three 25-in. x 10-in. drawers provide hidden storage in the bottom half of the tower in the featured closet.

The top half of the tower can hold more folded clothing thanks to the addition of two extra shelves.

On the bottom left of the featured closet, four sections of hanging space were not needed, so a well-placed accessory added more shelving. A 4-Shelf Organizer allows for the display and storage of bags, scarves and more. If you would prefer footwear shelving, a 3-Shelf Shoe Organizer would fit perfectly. Or a Narrow 4-Shelf Organizer would leave a few inches of long-hang space for your maxi dresses or gowns.

You can add drawers to the 4-Shelf Organizer that’s used in the featured closet as well.

When you’re ready to arrange your new closet system, take inspiration from this Impressions layout. Start with a tower kit and experiment with accessories to create your ideal storage system. You can follow the same steps with many of our product lines.
